Maintenance item CV joint boots
CV Joint protector boot.
The Constant Velocity Joint is mostly used in front drive axles. Some 4 wheel drive vehicle has them in rear drive-axle too. It is important to inspect the protector boots time to time for any crack or broken. When boot is not crack open, then CV joint is still good and serviceable with a new boots and clamps. If the CV joint get damaged then you usually hear the cracking noise while you are making turn. But when noisy, then you have to replace a whole new driving axle. Here are some of pictures so you can see how it is made.
